
A heartbreaking accident in Coos County, Oregon has left a college community mourning after a truck collided head-on with a bus carrying members of the Umpqua Community College softball team. The devastating crash occurred Friday night as the team was returning from a game in Coos Bay.
Details of the Crash
According to Oregon State Police, the crash happened when the driver of a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck crossed the center line and slammed into a Chevrolet Express team bus. The bus was carrying 10 members of the Umpqua Community College team at the time.
- Jami Strinz, 46, head softball coach and the driver of the bus, was transported to a hospital but tragically passed away.
- Kiley Jones, 19, a freshman and first baseman from Nampa, Idaho, was pronounced dead at the scene.
- The other eight passengers on the bus suffered moderate to serious injuries and were treated at hospitals in Eugene and Portland.
- The truck driver also sustained serious injuries and was transported to an emergency medical center.
